Is Poker Legal In Rhode Island?
The General Laws of Rhode Island (R.I. Gen. Laws) legalized poker at the two commercial casinos. R.I. Gen. Laws 42-61.2-1 explicitly names poker as one of the forms of “casino gaming” that are permitted at Bally’s Lincoln and Bally’s Tiverton.
The law defines “Casino gaming” as follows: “any and all table and casino-style games played with cards, dice, or equipment, for money, credit, or any representative of value; including, but not limited to, roulette, blackjack, big six, craps, poker…”
As for online poker, Rhode Island has the legislation in place to launch, but hasn’t partnered with any licensed poker operators. Under 2023-S 0948B, 2023-H 6348A, Rhode Island residents who are 21+ years old can play online table games from a mobile app or computer.
