Can You Play Poker In Nevada?

While some believe Las Vegas is the best place to learn how to play poker in Nevada, online options provide a less stressful and more rewarding experience. BetOnline and WSOP are the top online poker options in Nevada.

There are roughly 350 poker tables and 25+ poker rooms in Nevada with rooms spread throughout Las Vegas, Reno, Laughlin, and Mesquite. Nevada used to have poker rooms on every corner of the Las Vegas strip, but 11 casinos closed their poker rooms over the last decade.

Those closings cost live poker players 104 poker tables across some iconic venues, including the Mirage. This page will cover all the live poker rooms, including those in operation and those that have recently closed, and the Nevada online poker options in The Silver State.

Is Poker Legal In Nevada?

Nevada was the first state to legalize poker in the U.S. and even had legal gambling since 1931. The Silver State introduced legal online poker in 2013, permitting a short list of sites to offer online poker games.

Nevada’s poker laws fall under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), which includes all facets of legal poker, like regulation, crime, and charitable poker. These laws are overseen by the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) and the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Under NRS 463.160, casinos must be licensed “To deal, operate, carry on, conduct, maintain or expose for play in the State of Nevada any gambling game, gaming device, slot machine, race book or sports pool.” This permits any of the 300 licensed casinos in Nevada to offer poker since NRS 463.0152 specifically names poker under their definition of “game” or “gambling game”.

Online poker in Nevada has been legal and regulated since 2013 under NRS 463.745 for interactive gaming. Nevada joined the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) for shared poker player pools, which includes other states with poker like Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, and New Jersey.

What Is The Legal Poker Age In Nevada?

The legal poker age in Nevada is 21 for all commercial casinos and state-regulated online poker sites. Gaming, which includes poker, is prohibited for people under the age of 21 according to NRS 463.350.

The statute states that “A person under the age of 21 years shall not play, be allowed to play, place wagers at, or collect winnings from, whether personally or through an agent, any gambling game, slot machine, race book, sports pool or pari-mutuel operator.” The law also prohibits underage people from loitering or being employed at a poker room.

Poker Tip: Offshore online Nevada poker sites that are legal, such as BetOnline, have a lower minimum age than state-regulated platforms. These sites offer 18+ poker in Nevada.

Can I Play On WSOP In Nevada?

Yes, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) provides Nevada online poker to residents looking to play from a computer or mobile device. WSOP is the only online poker site that’s licensed and regulated by the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Nevada gambling regulators target operators rather than players. Online poker players can enjoy BetOnline’s weekly $250,000 guaranteed tournaments without any fear of legal issues.

Is It Legal To Play Poker In Nevada At Bovada Or Ignition?

Other offshore poker sites like Bovada and Ignition don’t accept Nevada players like BetOnline does. This is on their own accord and not enforced by Nevada poker laws, so Bovada and Ignition both choose not to take players from Nevada.
