LAS VEGAS – It will be a busy December at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas as the World Poker Tour is headed there way with two tournaments taking place this month. It begins on December 7th with the WPT Prime Championship and followed by the WPT World Championship starting on December 13th.
These are some of the most coveted legal poker tournaments of the year, and we’ll get into the specifics and schedules for both of them before registering for them.
WPT Prime Championship Guaranteeing $5 Million
Starting with the Prime Championship, this is for smaller and more casual players with a $1,100 buy in requirement and up to $5 million in guaranteed payouts.
Registration and buy in will be allowed through the first four days of the tournament, from December 7th to December 10th. In those first four days, each player will start off with 40,000 chips and blinds starting at $40/$60.
Following the four day registration window are the first two championship round days on the 11th and 12th. The final table will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20th.
WPT World Championship Breakdown
For those high stakes Nevada poker players, the World Championship has a $10.4k buy, and the prize pool is based on the number of registrations. In 2024, over $10 million was paid out in winnings, with first place winning $3.1 million.
Registration will only take place for three days, starting at 11:00 a.m. on December 13th until 11:00 a.m., December 15th. Following the sign up days are four straight days of knockout rounds from December 16th to December 19th.
The final TV championship table will be played on December 21st at 4:00 p.m.
